B&B Trapani - Hints of Erice

B&B Trapani - Hints of Erice

A site featuring an unforgettable beauty Erice, an ancient Phoenician and Greek cities, perched at 751 meters high on the mountain that bears the same name, crowned by a triangular plateau to sea terrace. Defended by ramparts and walls, the city is a maze of narrow cobbled streets and passageways so narrow as to allow the pasaggio of one man. The houses are tightened to each other, and have pretty manicured courtyards, defended and protected from view of passers-by so that family life is conducted in complete privacy. In ancient times, Erice was known for its temple where the Phoenicians worshiped Astarte, the Greek Aphrodite and the Romans Venus. Mount Eryx was used as a reference point for navigators of which soon became the protector of Venus. At night, a big fire in the sacred area served as a lighthouse. The fame of Venus Ericina became such that she was a temple dedicated to Rome and his cult spread throughout the Mediterranean.
Erice has two faces: the bright sun and warm days of summer, when light floods the streets and wonderful views over the valley and on the open sea, and that the winter days when, wrapped in clouds, the town seems to be reunited with its mythic roots and gives the traveler the feeling of having arrived at a place outside of time and reality. The medieval atmosphere, fresh air, beautiful pine forests that cirondano, quiet surroundings and the local crafts make it one of the favorite destinations by tourists. On the ruins of the ancient temple, dedicated to a goddess of nature beautiful and fruitful, identified with Venus by the Romans Ericina, stands the Castle of Venus, made impregnable by the Normans, who endowed the walls edged with crenellations. The medieval towers that formed the outpost of the Castle of Venus were partially reconstructed by Count Pepoli, who was also the ´edificazionedi a manner vaguely Moorish-style building, this tower and arched roof. Around the castle lie the gardens of "Balius" (named after the Norman governor, Bajul, who resided in the castle). Along its streets meet shopping for antiques, handmade rugs, pottery and art of traditional sweets. Erice was made famous worldwide by the presence of the Centre for Scientific Culture "Ettore Maiorana" at which you play constantly scientific conferences and international exhibitions.
